Trip is May 3-14, 2017 mainly to Utah and Arizona. We will fly into Salt Lake and drive down to spend the first night at Ruby's Inn at the Bryce National Park entrance. This is a Members Only Event with NO Online Reservation. You must be a current member both to sign up and go on the trip.
The trip cost includes a pre-trip dinner function, car rental, 11 nights of lodging two to a room, some breakfast, some sack lunches, some snacks for Happy Hour, $20 admin fee and $24 for trip development.
Total cost $842, deposit is $450, with balance of $392 due March 1. Initial deposit is by check made out to Bergfreunde Ski Club. General membership signup is at the September 14 Social. Nancy Chase will give out numbered tickets and forms to fill out in the living room area of King City starting at 4:30. Doors open to main area at 5:30 where Jean will take signups in ticket sequence at her table. Deposit is by check only. Unknown how many people will arrive when to get a spot.
You may buy your own airfare or be one of the 36 flying on the group Alaska flight for $296 purchased through club. Group ticket current flights and times are depart Portland Wed May 3 8:15 am flight 3447 arriving Salt Lake at 11:05 am; depart Salt Lake Sun May 14 5:10 pm flight 2323 arriving Portland 8:37 pm. There are some benefits to having a group ticket versus purchased individually. There will be a jetboat from Moab on the Colorado River to Dead Horse State Park on the border to Canyonlands National Park for around $80 and a chance to visit Antelope Canyon for around $25.
Bryce May 3 - First night at Ruby's Inn at the Bryce National Park entrance. The next day you have an opportunity to visit Zion National Park or Coral Pink Sands State Park.
Kanab May 4 - The second night will be at Parry Lodge on the Utah-Arizona border. You could put in for the lottery drawing for the Wave on the second day.
Bluff May 5-7 – We will be staying 3 nights at Recapture Lodge and Kokopelli Inn. From Bluff, you have the option to visit Four Corners National Monument, Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado, Natural Bridges National Monument, Hovenweep National Monument, Monument Valley in Arizona, and Canyon de Chelly in Arizona.
Moab May 8-10 - We will be staying 3 nights at River Canyon Lodge and Bowens. While in Moab you have the option to see Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse State Park.
Torrey May 11-13 - We will be staying 3 nights at Chuck Wagon Lodge and Red Sands. During our stay in Torrey you have the option to see Capital Reef National Park and Escalante National Monument.
The trip has incredible opportunities for hiking and definitely not anywhere near sea level. Zion and Bryce do have free hop on and off shuttle buses to all the main trailheads and visitor centers. There are scenic drives in several places as well. You can opt for 4-wheel drive tours if you have plenty of cash on hand.
