There will be city walks, museums, historical monuments as well as hiking, canoeing and enjoying the great Ozark outdoors. There will be plenty of group activities, and opportunities to explore individual interests. A tentative agenda follows:

May 6,7,8 – fly into Memphis, rent cars, travel to Comfort Inn downtown Memphis for the next three nights. This hotel is right on the trolley line that will take us to multiple attractions. Tour Mud Island by the monorail across the street; visit the Mississippi River Museum; trolley or walk to The National Civil Rights Museum, the very moving spot where Martin Luther King Jr was shot; visit BB King’s Blues Club on famous Beale Street; tour the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Gibson Guitar Factory tours, or the Cotton Museum; or visit numerous art museums and a beautiful botanical garden. See the famous Peabody Ducks as they march thru this historic hotel twice a day. And of course- there are multiple options for visiting Elvis Presley’s Graceland!

May 9,10- Drive through northern Arkansas by way of a scenic highway that winds thru farmland, ranches, and beautiful mountains. Destination is the Buffalo Outdoor Center, located in Ponca Arkansas within the Buffalo River National Monument. We’ll stay two nights in comfortable mountain cabins and a beautiful large resort lodge . There will be opportunities to do a canoe float trip, hike multiple trails of varying skill levels, bird watch during spring migration, or just relax and enjoy the views and sounds of the Ozark Mountains.

May 11, 12- There will be time in the morning to hike to Whitaker Point, the most photographed place in all of Arkansas. Then we travel across the border into Missouri, a mere 1.5 hr drive to Branson, the “live country music capital of the universe”, and the “heart of the Ozarks”. After checking into our centrally located hotel, we will be greeted with real Branson style hospitality aboard the Branson Showboat Belle for a 4 pm dinner show and cruise on Table Rock Lake. A visit to Table Rock State Park Visitor Center is another highlight in the area. Our second day in Branson will be spent at Silver Dollar City, a huge theme park that combines the atmosphere of an 1880s Ozark pioneer village with 21st century rides and thrills. Thrill seekers will be amazed at the triple inversion and multi-looping roller coasters. The park will be hosting the Bluegrass and BBQ festival, with music venues included in our ticket price. The park also is home to the Marvel Cave, famous for it’s 3 miles of underground passageways and underground cathedral room. There are approximately 50 different music theatres in Branson, with shows nightly that vary with the season. They range from traditional country shows, to generation-spanning family Ozark music and comedy shows. Our last morning in Branson, folks can visit the Titanic Museum, a total immersion experience as you relive what it was like to be aboard The Titanic. Others may want to explore Branson Mill Craft Village, or Branson Landing with its dancing fountain water show.

May 13th- There are several options as we drive to our next motel, in Eureka Springs Arkansas. One route takes us along scenic highways to Bentonville, home of the Walmart Museum and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. This museum is unique for its inside and outside art collections. There

are more than 3.5 miles of trails highlighted by sculptures and gardens, including a Frank Lloyd Wright house. Highlights inside the museum include Norman Rockwell’s “Rosie the Riveter” and Andy Warhol’s “Dolly Pardon”. Once we arrive in Eureka Springs, there will be time to enjoy Blue Spring Heritage Center, a 33 acre complex featuring rock and wildflower gardens, and one of the largest natural springs in the Ozark Mountains; take a town trolley tour; do a walking tour of elegant Victorian houses; visit the Bible Museum and the grounds of The Great Passion Play.

May 14- This is the best drive day of the trip, a chance to really experience the beauty of Spring in the Ozarks, with the brilliant green trees and blooming Dogwoods. We’ll pass thru Jasper, home of “the Grand Canyon of the Ozarks”, and take Scenic Highway 7 all the way south to Hot Springs National Park. The park visitor center is on Bathhouse Row, and offers a unique glimpse into the history of this historic town. Our lodging will be at the historic Arlington Hotel, with its piano bar, dance floor, grand staircase, swimming pools and of course- Bath House! You can pre-arrange for a soak, steam and massage for your tired traveler’s body.

May 15,16- It’s a short 1.5 hr drive to Little Rock, where we will stay in the heart of the Riverfront Park area, two short blocks from the Arkansas River. You will be able to entertain yourself with a Trolley tour of the city; a visit to the Bill Clinton Presidential Library; walking in the river front nature area (great birding); touring the Witt Stephens Jr Central Arkansas Nature Center; visiting the Macarthur Museum of Military History and or the Arkansas Museum; bike the 17 mile River Trail, going over the Arkansas River without car traffic; or visit the Little Rock 9 National Monument across from Little Rock High School.
