We will be staying in Port Townsend for 3 nights at the duplexes on Non-commissioned Officers Row at the Fort Worden Conference Center State Park or staying on the waterfront at Waterstreet Hotel built in 1889. The activities here center around the historic parts of town, There is also kayaking plus hiking at nearby Olympic National Park. This is a town with lots of maritime activities such as watching boat building or taking a ferry for a day trip to Whidbey Island . We have rented a building for our get-together dinner on the waterfront on our arrival Thursday night. Friday, we hope to take the ferry to Victoria for the day to visit the Butchart Gardens and the Royal British Columbia Museum. Saturday, we will do a walking tour of old homes on our way to the uptown Saturday Farmer's Market. Many of you may want to explore Fort Worden either on foot or by bike. Sunday, you will be headed home or driving on to North Cascades National Park.
NORTH CASCADES
We will be staying 4 nights in 6 vacation rental homes and 4 studio units near Mazama, Washington. We will be preparing many meals in our 10 kitchens. We arrive the last day of Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival.
On July 17, most will drive the scenic North Cascades highway 20 from Whidbey Island crossing North Cascades National Park to Mazama in Methow Valley. There are a half dozen gorgeous scenic stops along our route. Since there are hikers of all skill levels amongst us, there will be a wide selection of trails from wheelchair accessible to suitable for a mountain goat. The Methow Valley summer trail map has 3 trail systems for fat tire biking, horseback riding and foot travel. There are also hiking trails for everyone in the North Cascades National Park. Pearrygin Lake near Winthrop, an Old West town very worth visiting, is a great place to kayak or go swimming. There will be at least one option for a rafting trip and an inflatable kayak trip. Tubing is popular in this area also.
