Hike - Mount ST. Helens Hike/ FULL no more sign ups -- CANCELED

PLEASE REGISTER - IF CANCELLATION IS NEEDED, THE LEADER CAN CONTACT YOU!!!!
This is a great day Hike to see the effects of the landside and subsequent blast zone-the destruction, and rebirth of life. The Boundary trail leading from Johnson Ridge Observatory Johnson Ridge out to Devils point is very exposed with great views of landsides, Lahars, mudflows, and the devastating volcanic blast that blew down trees and all in its path. The Hummocks trail shows the succession of life from total destruction to rebuilding and rebirth of not only vegetation, but mammals, insects, and birds. Plus the hummocks and terraces, sinkholes, and erosional features make for an interesting study of geologic processes.

Hike option one - 10:30 arrive at the Hummocks, Hike a 2.5-mile loop, which can be wet and muddy in spots allowing 1.5- 2 hours with breaks for views and lunch.

Option 2 - After the Hummocks trail drive 15 minutes up to JRO, and hike/snowshoe from Johnson Ridge Observatory to Devils Point and back (4 miles RT) most likely snowshoes will be needed but at press time still 1 foot of snow is present.
This hike along the Boundary trail is in the blast zone, with great views of landslide, blast, Lahars, and Spirit Lake. 2 to 3 hours on the trail

Option 3 - hang out at JRO, a great visitor center with cool displays and information booths. just sit and enjoy the view if that's what's needed.
NW parking permits are needed for all trailheads, possibly still snow on trails-hiking poles, snowshoes, or microspikes might be needed. Weather variable layers are advised.

Bring plenty of water, trail food, sunscreen (little shade on Boundary trail), and a hat. Observer trail etiquette - MANDATORY in Monument trails- stay on trails, no feeding animals, No gathering anything. Many scientific studies are still in progress, so do not remove anything.

Confirm with Dave Sterling, Trip Leader. dapast18@gmail.com or
